Another poem

September 7, 2013

This is a birthday poem composed for Rosa and inspired by the great acrostic poets of antiquity.

Ar Oh Es Eh

Rare-earth
Optical
Spectroscopy
Academic.

Relatively
Organised
Sage
Advisor?

Rules.
Orthoritative?
Should
All

Ruled
Ought
To
Accede

to them?

The pattern of the letters
In your name which you didn’t choose
but you could
If you really decided you wanted to
change them

Or perhaps you would prefer to add to those fixed letters,
select from the hierarchy
N C E A level 1 2 3
B S C
L L B
B C O M
M S C
B A
P H D
A B A minus B plus E D A plus

Do the letters you choose decide something
more enduring than the words in this poem?
Like the rest of your life and the people you’ll know?
Nobody’s life is that simple!
What happens when there are no more letters to get?

Like a

Rocket
On
Some
Advanced

launchpad in the future you’ll be
free from strictures, your letters will
become distant and maybe you’ll have
to burn a few to correct your course
so you always point to where you want to be next

Objects in motion remain in motion
Objects at rest stay at rest
…unless they decide not to

Final advice: ignore

Really
Orful
Strained
Acrostics

and have a
Happy Birthday
Rosa!
